What to put in the summary
Name the kind of product (consumer app, internal tools, healthcare), your range across research and interaction design, and where your portfolio lives. Say what you are strongest at. If you are asked for a case study, the resume is just the index to it.
UX designer for financial and health apps, with four years across research, flows and interface design. I start with five user conversations before opening Figma. Portfolio at the link above shows two full case studies.
Sample bullets with numbers
Describe the problem, what you did and what changed, with research sample sizes. Hiring managers know you cannot fit a case study on a page; they want a signal worth clicking.
- Redesigned the bill-pay flow after 12 usability sessions; task completion rose from 71% to 89% and support contacts about payments fell by a fifth.
- Led research for a medication-reminder feature with 20 participants over 55, shaping larger type and a simpler confirmation step.
- Built and documented a 60-component design system in Figma, which cut design-to-build handoff questions in engineering reviews.
- Ran weekly design critiques with six designers and engineers, shortening the average time from first sketch to approved design.
- Mapped the onboarding journey for a clinic app and removed two screens that 30% of testers abandoned.
- Created a prototype for a new savings goal feature used to win internal funding.
These numbers are invented to show the shape of a good bullet. Use your own, and leave a number out rather than guess.
Key skills to list
- User research
- Usability testing
- Interaction design
- Figma
- Prototyping
- Information architecture
- Design systems
- Accessibility
- Workshop facilitation
- Analytics literacy
Methods first (research, testing), tools second. The portfolio proves visual quality; the list should prove process.
Common mistakes
- Using a heavily designed resume that is unreadable to software, with columns of icons and charts of skill “levels”.
- Rating yourself with bars or stars for Figma or research. They carry no meaning.
- Listing deliverables (wireframes, personas) without outcomes.
- Forgetting to link a portfolio, or linking one that needs a password without saying so.
A layout that suits this resume
Split gives the page a designed feel without photos or graphics a parser cannot read, with the work on one side and tools and education on the other. See the Split template, or compare all 22 layouts.
UX Designer resume questions
Do I need a portfolio as well as a resume?
Yes. The resume gets you screened; the portfolio gets you interviews. Put the link at the top and make sure it opens quickly on a phone.
Should a UX resume be creative?
Keep it tidy and quiet. Design sense shows in alignment and spacing, not in colour or icons. A clear, simple page is a good sample of your work.
