What to put in the summary

Lead with what you sell, to whom, and your typical result: segment, average deal size and quota attainment. If your best numbers are in the bullets, the summary can be two lines. Avoid “born salesperson”; a ranking or a number does the job.

Mid-market SaaS account executive selling workflow software to operations leaders. Three years above quota, average deal $34,000, most deals found through outbound and referrals. Comfortable running a 60-day cycle with five stakeholders.

Sample bullets with numbers

Quota attainment, rank, deal size and cycle length are the four numbers sales managers scan for. Put at least two in your top bullets.

  • Closed $1.12M against a $900K quota (124%), ranking 3rd of 22 account executives for the year.
  • Built an outbound sequence for logistics managers that booked 11 meetings a month and was adopted by the whole team.
  • Raised average deal size from $26K to $34K by adding a multi-site rollout option to proposals.
  • Reduced the sales cycle on mid-market deals from 74 to 58 days by bringing finance into the second call instead of the fifth.
  • Sold to 70+ small businesses a quarter in a territory of 400 accounts, hitting 108% of target.
  • Won the regional new-account award in two of three years, with a 94% on-time follow-up rate in the CRM.

These numbers are invented to show the shape of a good bullet. Use your own, and leave a number out rather than guess.

Key skills to list

  • Outbound prospecting
  • Discovery calls
  • Negotiation
  • Salesforce
  • HubSpot
  • Forecasting
  • Account planning
  • Demo delivery
  • Objection handling
  • LinkedIn Sales Navigator

Name your CRM and the sales method you use only if you actually follow it. A tool list is the least interesting part of a sales page.

Common mistakes

  1. Giving percentages with no base (“exceeded quota by 40%” on a tiny quota).
  2. Leaving off rank or team size, which gives your numbers context.
  3. Listing duties like “cold calling” and “building relationships” with no result.
  4. Claiming team wins as personal ones.

Sales Representative resume questions

What if my numbers were not great?

Choose true numbers that show growth or difficulty: a hard territory, a new product, a turnaround. Never inflate. Sales managers check references, and the story of how you improved can be stronger than a flat figure.

How do I move from retail to B2B sales?

Translate: upsell rate, sales per hour and repeat-customer counts show you can sell. Add any B2B contact you had, such as account orders or local business partnerships.
