What to put in the summary
Name the store type and what you are known for: sales per hour, add-on sales, handling returns calmly, or opening and closing. Keep it to two lines. Include availability.
Retail sales associate in a busy outdoor-equipment store, three years of floor sales and cash handling. Consistently top of the team on add-on sales and trusted to open and close. Available weekends and evenings.
Sample bullets with numbers
Sales per hour, attach rate, rank, till accuracy and survey scores are all things a store manager sees weekly. Use two or three.
- Averaged $210 in sales per labour hour against a store average of $165, ranking first on a team of 14 for six quarters.
- Raised the accessory attach rate on footwear sales from 22% to 36% by suggesting the right socks and insoles at the register.
- Opened and closed the store about 8 times a month, with cash drawers balancing within $2 on 98% of shifts.
- Handled returns and exchanges for about 30 customers a day, keeping the customer survey score above 4.7 of 5.
- Recounted inventory in a section of 1,200 SKUs and cut variance by a third.
- Trained six seasonal hires in the POS and returns procedure during the holiday rush.
These numbers are invented to show the shape of a good bullet. Use your own, and leave a number out rather than guess.

Retail Sales Associate resume questions
I do not know my sales numbers. What now?
Ask a manager, or use what you can honestly estimate, such as customers served per shift. Do not invent figures.
Should I list every retail job?
Include the last three to five years and stable jobs. Short stints can be left off if they leave no unexplained gaps.
